Neighbors speak out after meth bust: “We got a lot of kids around here”

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH — Police are investigating a south side drug operation after Marion County’s first meth lab bust of the year.

The meth lab prompted action from police and firefighters Wednesday morning. An IMPD spokesman said a hazmat and bomb squad team also responded due to the hazardous chemicals inside a home in the 2000 block of South Pennsylvania.

Laura McClain lives three doors down from the house.

“We got a lot of kids around here. A lot of kids, a lot of poor animals running around,” McClain said. “If the house would have blown up, it would have done some damage around here.”

County health workers taped a sheet to the home just before noon deeming it “unfit for occupancy.”

“First thing I said: it had to be drugs,” McClain said. “You look at that house, it looks so decent. It looks good on the outside. I wouldn’t have thought there was drugs going on.”

Indiana State Police said 13 meth labs were uncovered in the county last year.

Eddie Stelton said the first responders woke him up this morning.

“It’s not good for the little ones,” he said of the meth lab. “But we kind of stay to ourselves around here.”

An IMPD spokesman said no arrests have been made and the agency has not named any suspects.
