Fire erupts when driver strikes fuel pumps on city’s west side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A driver who lost control of his vehicle struck several fuel pumps causing a fire on the city’s west side, according to Wayne Township fire officials.

Officials say it happened around 3:50 a.m. on Friday at a Marathon Gas Station at 2810 W. Kentucky Avenue.

When firefighters arrived the emergency shutoffs had been activated to avoid a large amount of oil from leaking. Officials say the car and gas pumps were also on fire. Firefighters had the flames out in about five minutes.

Luckily the driver was able to escape the flames. He was transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in good condition.
