Lafayette police investigating overnight shooting

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Lafayette police have released the identity of the man found with a gunshot wound early Friday morning.

Lafayette police officers said they found 19-year-old Chaz Kruger, of Lafayette, lying in the middle of the 1500 block of South Street yelling he had been shot around 1 a.m.

Kruger was was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. His status is unknown at this time.

South Street was closed while evidence was collected, but has since reopened. A gun may have been recovered from the crime scene, but police were unable to confirm that fact.

Investigators said the case remains ongoing as more interviews are being conducted and leads are being followed.
