Powerball players in search of the golden ticket

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Powerball jackpot has climbed to the biggest prize in history – $800 million. Friday, you could get the chance to win that jackpot for free.

The Hoosier Lottery gave out 200 free tickets in several locations around central Indiana.

“It’s an unbelievable amount of money,” Beech Grove resident Joshua Heady said. “It’s a lot we could do with.”

“It’s crazy,” Indianapolis resident Matt Johnston said. “Like Hoosier lotto is like 12 or 13, and for this to be as high as it is.”

Lots of people in Indianapolis are catching Powerball fever as the jackpot grows bigger and bigger. The jackpot could be worth even more money before the drawing on Saturday night, if more people buy tickets.

Odds of winning are pretty small. Experts say you have a 1 in 292 million chance at winning.

Despite the odds, it doesn’t stop people from daydreaming. “Send the kids through college, Heady said. “Give some to charities for homeless and stuff like that.”

“I would probably invest some of the money, and make sure all my friends and family are taken care of,” Indianapolis resident Justin Smith said.

The drawing is Saturday night at 10:59 p.m. You have until 10 p.m. Saturday to get your ticket.
