IFD: Infant dropped to safety from burning apartment

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An infant was dropped to safety from a window and two other people were injured in an apartment fire on the northeast side of Indianapolis Saturday evening.

Fire crews responded to the 5900 block of Devington Road around 9:15 p.m.

An Indianapolis Fire Department official says three people — an infant, its mother and its father — were transported to the hospital.

Before firefighters arrived, the infant was dropped from a second-story window to a neighbor on the ground, according to IFD.

The fire reportedly damaged five apartment units.

Arson investigators were called to the scene as crews work to find out what caused the fire.
