2 storms in 2 days leaves Snow Force in overdrive

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – With one winter storm down, the city is bracing for another.

But Monday night’s storm comes as the city continues to clean up from from this weekend’s storm.

“I was off all weekend, so I didn’t have to go anywhere,” said Larissa Smith who was cleaning off her car Monday morning. “Not looking forward to this.”

But its not just cars still being cleared off, but the streets as well.

“The side streets are pretty icy, but the main roads are pretty good,” said Dave Kleine, who was also cleaning off his car.

The city’s Snow Force was first activated Saturday night, and officials say the crew will stay on through Tuesday morning. But they only clear the city’s main roads.

“Our main concern is always those primary thoroughfares, those streets are the city’s link to our emergency services, they’re also the most heavily traveled by commuters,” said Jennifer Hashem, the public information officer for the Department of Public Works.

For the side roads additional snow means whatever falls will go on top of the ice that’s already there.

Mayor Hogsett’s office said Monday afternoon they’re monitoring the Snow Force’s procedures and will adjust accordingly.

INDOT says they’ll have 285 trucks on hand across the state to clear any accumulations.

“People, just go slower. People have driven on icy, snowy roads for a long long time,” said Jeff Nottingham as he was clearing off his car.
