Vehicle goes airborne on SR 25, 1 dead

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Emergency personnel responded to the 3200 block of State Road 25 West for a fatal crash Sunday morning that closed the roadway for more than three hours.

The driver was 42-year-old Tammy Brindle, of Attica, and the passenger was 67-year-old Katherine Lewis, of West Point.

Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene. Brindle had to be extricated from the vehicle by Shadeland Volunteer Fire and Rescue. She was taken to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette and later transferred to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

According to witnesses, the vehicle was traveling east down State Road 25 West at a high rate of speed.

According to Dep. J. Rohler, officials are unsure of what caused the driver to crash. They said the car left the road and went airborne, hitting two trees in the front yard of a nearby home.

Drugs and alcohol tests are pending, but are not believed to be a factor in the crash. Both driver and passenger were wearing seat belts.

Deputies are currently investigating the crash.
