Marion police investigating homicide early Tuesday

MARION, Ind. (WISH) — The Marion Police Department is investigating a homicide that happened Tuesday morning.

Just after 6:30 a.m., police were called to AutoZone Automotive in the 900 block of S. Baldwin Ave. to investigate a male subject causing damage to a vehicle.

According to the Marion Police Department, officers arrived and spoke to the man who called. He began to tell them about performing mouth-to-mouth on the male victim in a nearby home.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the man unresponsive. They’ve identified the victim as 55-year-old James Zook of Marion. He was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy will be performed Wednesday in Fort Wayne.

The suspect, 31-year-old Waylon Sadler of Wabash, is in police custody.

Police say Sadler was found in the 2000 block of N. Wabash Ave. Police say he ran from police after making eye contact. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the matter.

Police say Sadler had an existing warrant for a parole violation in Wabash County for battery, residential and aggravated battery.

According to MPD, it is unclear what happened between Zook and Sadler early Monday morning.
