Fishers PD warns of tailgate thieves

FISHERS (WISH) – Fishers police are warning you to keep an eye out, after several truck tailgates were stolen.

Police say someone stole four tailgates over the weekend from a parking lot.  Investigators say they’re being taken to be used for scrap metal, and they are easy to steal.

The backside, it takes people about 15 seconds to get one of these tailgates off, and now with some of the tailgates with backup cameras, some of them can cost up to 3000 dollars to replace,” said Shawn Wynn of Fishers Police Department.

Police say you can protect your tailgate by backing up against a building when you park.

You can also buy a lock that would cost between $20 and $30.
