Statehouse holds MLK Jr. celebration

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Governor Mike Pence helped present several awards to Hoosiers who embody the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.

The Statehouse held a celebration ceremony in honor of the Civil Rights activist.

The governor mentioned the importance of teaching King’s message to the next generation.

“Teach our young people about what has come before. We live in a time it seems like the news cycle is over every six hours. So thinking back decades and thinking back in the short span of my lifetime and thinking how far the nation has come in my 56 years is something we have to teach our kids,’ said Pence.

At the end of the ceremony, the governor presented the Brown family with an award honoring Amos Brown.
