Former swim coach sentenced in child seduction case

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A former North Central swim coach will get probation in a child seduction case.

Matthew Carrington was a swim coach at the school from Dec. 19, 2012 up until his termination on Feb. 24, 2015.

On Friday, Carrington was sentenced to two years probation in the case. As part of a plea agreement, he won’t be allowed in any coaching, teaching, attending of any swim events or mentoring activities involving any child under the age of 18.

According to court documents, Carrington sent sexual messages to a 16-year-old girl at North Central.

The victim told police that she had been speaking with Carrington via text messages, but thought of him as a dad or father figure, according to court documents.

Following his arrest, the appearance of his mugshot in the school yearbook raised the concerns of some parents.
