Officials seek name for Indiana trail system

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) – Officials are looking for a name for a system of hundreds of miles of trails in northeastern Indiana.

The system made up of dozens of trails in 10 counties doesn’t currently have a name, and the search has been ongoing for more than two years. The Northeastern Indiana Regional Coordinating Council held a public hearing Thursday night to get ideas and input from the public, WANE-TV reported.

“We struggled to try to find a brand that would fit all the communities in a way that would support them and yet keep our individual identities on our individual trails when we need them,” said Bill Spohn, building and planning administrator for the city of Auburn.

John Bosio with Merje Designs said trails in the area need better signage for trailheads. He showed designs used in other communities during the public hearing and said having signs along trials showing what’s in the area is important for economic development.

Trail users were able to mark their opinions on examples of color schemes, font and designs. Bosio said he hopes to take feedback and have design drafts done by early March.

Branding would be funded in part by the Regional Cities Initiative, communities and private investors, Spohn said.
