Mayor Hogsett among hundreds in Polar Bear Pedal

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – About 500 people hopped on their bicycles and took a ride across the city on Saturday morning for the 5th annual Polar Bear Pedal.

Mayor Joe Hogsett was among the group of cyclists who began at the City Market Plaza and rode past the future home of the Eagle Creek Greenway, as well as through the IUPUI campus. The Polar Bear Pedal also encompassed the Haughville area and extended to the neighborhoods of the city’s west side.

The event is meant to highlight Indy’s growing bikeways.

Jamison Hutchins, the bicycle and pedestrian coordinator for the Department of Public Works, said, “I’m a big believer in bikes. I ride a bike every day for transportation. I would always encourage somebody to ride a bike whether it’s for fun or transportation or whatever. I think it’s a great way to get around.”

Mayor Hogsett said during his remarks he plans to participate in the Polar Bear Pedal for at least the next three years he’s mayor.
