“Can I just say to the rest of the family right now, Andrew is experiencing something that is way better than the entrance into a Final Four game,” said Aaron Brockett, the lead pastor of the church referring to Smith’s being on the Butler basketball team when it went to the Final Four tournament in 2010 and 2011.

Brad Stevens, Smith’s coach during the Final Four runs, delivered his eulogy.

“He never complained; he was always a great teammate. He tried to help everybody else live a little bit better, and he taught us all how to prepare well for our time. You did well fella’,” Stevens said.

Butler University created the Andrew Smith Scholarship Fund to provide support for future Bulldog basketball players.
