2 women found dead in Gary had ligature marks on their necks

GARY, Ind. (AP) – Northwestern Indiana authorities are investigating as homicides the deaths of two Gary women whose bodies were found with ligature marks on their necks.

The Lake County coroner’s office says 86-year-old Velia Taneff’s body was found Sunday afternoon near her Gary home. Sixty-three-year-old Lana Taneff was found dead in the home the two women shared.

It was not immediately clear how the women were related.

Both had ligature marks on their necks and the coroner lists both deaths as homicides.

Lake County police are investigating the deaths. A message left Monday morning with Lake County police seeking additional details was not immediately returned.
