Community honors MLK at freedom march

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Community members and local leaders came together Monday to remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Madame Walker Theatre hosted a special ceremony.

The event kicked off with a freedom march down Indiana Avenue.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett served as the keynote speaker.

Sen. Joe Donnelly, City-County Council President Maggie Lewis and Congressman Andre Carson also spoke at the event.

This year’s event also honored radio personality and activist Amos Brown, State Representative William “Bill” Crawford and philanthropist and entrepreneur William “Bill” Mayes.
