Deadline approaches to apply for Indiana Supreme Court

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The deadline for attorneys to apply to become an Indiana Supreme Court justice is noon on Jan. 25.

The Judicial Nominating Commission announced in November it was accepting applications to replace Justice Brent Dickson, who is retiring April 29.

The commission, chaired by Chief Justice Loretta Rush, recruits and interviews applicants for appellate judicial vacancies. The commission includes three lawyers elected by peers and three people appointed by Gov. Mike Pence.

Applicants must be an Indiana resident and a member of the Indiana bar for 10 years or an Indiana judge for five years. The commission will review applications and interview qualified candidates next month with a likely second round of interviews in March. The commission will recommend three finalists. Pence then has 60 days to make an appointment.
