Looking & Feeling Your Best

It could very well be the #1 rule when it comes to skin care: DON’T go to bed with your makeup on! You’ve heard that one, right?! Well, it’s true and for good reason. But that’s not all that can wreak havoc on your fave. Beauty and lifestyle expert KeeKee Lyons shares a few beauty secrets to help our skin looks its very best!

Here are a few of her skin care “rules”:

  1. Eat plenty of skin-loving foods: green leafies, berries and avocados! Studies show that eating a low-glycemic diet can help improve your skin’s health and appearance. Stay away from processed foods and refined sugars. Foods rich in vitamins A and C, like blueberries and cherries, which help normalize oil levels in your skin. And antioxidants neutralize free radicals.
  2. Probably the most important part of your skincare routine is to wash your face! And it is a skincare SIN to go to bed with your makeup on!!-Acne bacteria find in difficult to grow in an oxygen-rich environment. Oxygen helps heal the skin and even out skin tone -Benzoyl peroxide has a tendency to dry out your skin and leave red spots and dark marks. Products like LiquidOxygen are ideal to treat acne and to avoid getting acne.

  3. Wash your makeup brushes on a regular basis. People don’t realize how dirty they can become. Dirty makeup brushes can transfer germs and bacteria to your skin, causing breakouts. Many professionals suggest washing your brushes every few weeks. Instead of using plain soap or baby shampoo, try using a squirt of Facial Cleanser. It’s antibacterial and won’t dry out the bristles. And you know it won’t irritate your skin!
  4. Change your pillowcase much more often! Pillowcases can house dirt and oil. Like anything else that transfers dirt and oil to your skin, pillowcases can be the cause of acne. When your pillowcase isn’t laundered or changed regularly, a build-up of dirt and oil from the environment, as well as your skin and hair touching the pillow is transferred back to your skin. This can clog pores and cause blemishes.
  5. Wipe off your cell phone! Just think about all the germy encounters your cell phone has each day! Holding your cell phone against your cheek for extended periods of time can trap oils and dirt into your pores, causing breakouts. So limit your call times, clean your phone regularly, wash your hands and face every day, and try using a headset to limit the frequency of breakouts.
