Social services advocate Dickerson suspends US Senate bid

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Longtime social services advocate John Dickerson is suspending his underdog campaign seeking the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate this year.

Dickerson said Wednesday that his campaign hadn’t been successful in raising money despite the hard work of his supporters. Dickerson retired last summer after more than 30 years as executive director for The Arc of Indiana and announced his Senate campaign in August, saying he wanted to focus on climate change, a strong economy and voting rights.

Dickerson endorsed former U.S. Rep. Baron Hill, who now is the only Democrat seeking the Senate seat being given up by Republican Dan Coats.

U.S. Reps. Todd Young and Marlin Stutzman and former state Republican chairman Eric Holcomb are seeking the GOP nomination.
