State police keep busy with crashes on I-70

WABASH VALLLEY (WTHI) – Indiana State Police responded to multiple crashes on Interstate 70 Wednesday morning.

The first reported crash involving traffic issues was near the 37 mile marker. ISP Sgt. Joe Watts reported there were injuries reported with a three-vehicle accident, including a semi in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70.

Then, another accident involving semis happened in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 at the 37 mile marker.

Sgt. Watts reported the second accident involved a jackknifed semi and overturned units. Watts stated the driver of one of the semis had to be extricated from the vehicle and then airlifted for possible internal injuries.

Just after 10 a.m. Indiana Department of Transportation reported a crash in the eastbound lanes at the 35 mile marker. This is near State Road 243.

Officials then responded to multiple crashes on I-70 in Vigo County on the Wabash River bridge. There were two crashes in the eastbound lanes and one crash in the westbound lane. Sgt. Watts reported the accident at the 5 mile marker in the eastbound lanes involved entrapment.

News 10 crew at the scene reported a motor home was involved in the accident at the 5 mile marker in the eastbound lanes. Lifeline was originally called to the scene but later called off. Crews were finally able to remove a male from the motor home who had sustained injuries to his leg and was trapped. That male was taken to Regional Hospital by ambulance.

Indiana Department of Transportation reported one lane at the 5 mile marker in eastbound lanes was also closed.
