(WISH) – Actress Jada Pinkett Smith continues her call for an Oscars boycott.
This week – she announced in an online video that she won’t watch or attend the Academy Awards.
She’s one of several big names who are upset over this year’s nominations. For the second straight year the nominees in the major acting categories are entirely white.
On Wednesday night, Pinket-Smith spoke exclusively with “Entertainment Tonight saying the issue is bigger than an awards ceremony.
“Here’s the deal, this whole Oscar controversy isn’t really about the Oscars. But really in my plea to ask all people in communities of color to take back our power,” Smith said.
Pinkett Smith says she wants to stand up to an industry that, in her view, doesn’t value people of color.
Chris Rock is set to host this year’s Oscars. There are growing calls for him to step down.
