Coroner rules bar fight death a homicide

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The manner of death for a man who died after a fight at Kilroy’s Bar N’ Grill has been ruled a homicide, the Marion County Coroner’s Office confirmed Thursday.

John Hilf, 59, of St. Louis, died after hitting his head at the downtown Kilroy’s location on Jan. 9.

Investigators believe that an altercation took place between Hilf and another man in the bar.

The coroner’s office said Hilf died from a blunt force traumatic injury due to a fall he sustained after being pushed during the fight.

The man accused of pushing Hilf was detained and questioned by police, but his name has not been released. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials said no arrest is expected because it was an act of self defense.
