IFD rescues man in White River

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man hanging on for his life to a piece of ice was rescued Thursday by the Indianapolis Fire Department.

The man was kayaking down the White River Thursday afternoon when he fell in. It’s unclear how he ended up in the water.

According to the release, IFD responded quickly and threw a 300 foot work rope to him. The man grabbed on and they were able to get a ladder to him and pull him to shore.

The man was in the water for approximately 15 minutes. It took about one minute to pull him from the river.

On Thursday night the victim was in severe condition due to severe hypothermia. IFD said on Friday that the victim was released from the hospital and will continue recovering at home.
