Hoosiers donate blood to honor fallen IMPD officers

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Hoosiers helped save lives while paying tribute to fallen IMPD officer at the same time Friday.

City Market in downtown Indianapolis was filled with volunteers donating blood in honor of officers David Moore, Rod Bradway and Perry Renn.

The event, coordinated through the Indiana Blood Center, helps with the blood supply for patients at more than 60 hospitals across the state.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office hosted the event, which is called the Officer David Moore Memorial Blood Drive.

“We’ve had great turnouts,” explained Lance Lewis, who received Moore’s lungs when Moore was killed in the line of duty in 2011. “Last year we had 92 units of blood collected. This year we’re hoping to break the 100 unit mark. And the blood center tells us this is one of the largest drives they have each year.”

The event began in the morning and wrapped up at 4 p.m.
