Liquor store sales surge ahead of winter storm

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) – It’s a well-known fact that winter weather drives people to the grocery store to stock up on bread and milk.

But a business that also sees a boost in sales is liquor stores.

Brinkmann’s Wine and Spirits in Franklin, Tenn. is reporting that customers aren’t risking being stuck at home without a supply of alcohol.

“People panic when it comes to this, they don’t want to run out so it’s one of the few things where we find that people actually plan around not running out,” said Dean Norris with Brinkmann’s.

“It’s like a call to post in a race. The people leave work a little bit early and they want to provision themselves for the upcoming storm,” said Amos Baugh.

Baugh said Brinkmann’s sells more brown liquors like Brandy and Cognacs before winter storms.

“People want a drink to sit by a crackling fire with and stay warm while the outside is terrible.”
