Suspects in Cumberland clerk shooting to appear in court

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The man and two teens charged in the murder of a Cumberland gas station clerk are scheduled to be in court Friday.

Police say store surveillance video and witness accounts from Jan. 15, pin the three as the suspects in the murder and attempted robbery of a Cumberland gas station clerk and another robbery in Indianapolis.

Kiree Hayes, Damion Cobb, and Tyler Miller are facing several charges including murder and robbery. Cobb and Miller are 17, but are charged as adults.

Police say the two teens walked into the Cumberland Express Mart on East Washington Street last Friday and demanded money, but before the clerk could give them anything, he was shot in the chest.

According to court documents, Police said witnesses identified the suspects and said they saw them get into a white four-door Dodge vehicle.

While investigating the murder, police heard radio traffic about another gas station robbery about six miles away.

There, police said the clerk was pistol-whipped before the two suspects took money from the cash register and ran off.

Court documents say witnesses again identified the white four-door Dodge and police believe Cobb and Hayes are seen on surveillance footage.

The victim in the Cumberland murder has been identified as 24-year-old Khushwilder Singh. Reports indicate he came to the United States in 2010 and just opened the business a few months ago. His father is now requesting the government to grant him an emergency visa in order to plan a funderal for his son.

Hayes is expected in court this morning at 8:30 and Miller and Cobb are scheduled at 9 a.m. Look for updates on 24-Hour News 8 at noon.
