VIDEO: 8-ft-long crocodile takes dip in swimming pool, then goes back to ocean

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A crocodile with an apparent desire to mix up his swimming routine, took a morning dip in a Florida homeowner’s pool on Thursday then casually headed back to the ocean.

On Thursday morning, a homeowner in the Florida Keys was surprised to find the 8-foot-long crocodile swimming in his pool.

The homeowner lives at the 77 mile marker on Lower Matecumbe Key. He discovered the croc at 7:30 a.m. and called the sheriff’s office.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers and deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded.

That was enough to ruin the croc’s peaceful swim in the pool. Once authorities showed up, the croc headed back to the ocean. A FWC officer recorded the croc’s casual stroll back to the ocean.

The sheriff’s office and FWC officers also provided photos of the crocodile, which looked pretty big while lounging in the pool.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Deputy Becky Herrin said the croc encounter was not unusual.

“It’s not an uncommon thing for a crocodile to wander into a residential area in the Upper Keys,” said Herrin.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office serves an area that stretches from the Everglades, south to the city of Key West.
