About 50,000 customers in Carolinas remain without power

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – About 50,000 customers in the Carolinas remain without power as the sun is creeping out across two states hit by the first wave of the massive winter storm.

On Sunday morning, Duke Energy reports that about 48,000 customers are without electricity in North Carolina, and another 1,700 in South Carolina.

North Carolina’s Wake County has about 20,000 outages, while Johnston County has about 13,000.

Most of South Carolina’s outages are in Greenville County.

Forecasters expect some of the accumulation to thaw this afternoon as temperatures climb above 32 degrees. But overnight, temperatures will dip back below freezing in many areas.
