Football coaches learn about proper techniques

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Football trainers from across the country wrapped up a weekend of training Sunday in the Circle City.

Thirty-two master trainers from 13 states learned about proper equipment fitting, concussion recognition and response, sudden cardiac arrest and exertional heat stroke EAPs, heat acclimatization and practice guidelines.

The trainers, some of the top high school football coaches in the country as well as former NFL and college players, will bring what they’ve learned to youth football leagues and high schools nationwide that are members of the USA Football’s Heads Up program.

More than 1,100 high schools and nearly 70 percent of U.S. youth football leagues registered for Heads Up Football.

USA Football’s Heads Up Football program is a comprehensive approach to a better and safer game, encompassing USA Football’s accredited Level 1 Coach Certification Course.

In addition, the program also includes Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) concussion recognition and response, medical expert-approved heat and hydration protocols, equipment fitting instruction, sudden cardiac arrest protocols, Heads Up Tackling techniques and Heads Up Blocking techniques.
