NYPD: 25 summonses issued for those traveling during ban

NEW YORK (AP) – The New York Police Department says officers issued 25 summonses to drivers who were on the road after a travel ban had gone into effect in New York City.

Chief of Department James O’Neill says eight summonses were issued in Manhattan, five in Brooklyn, 11 in the Bronx and one on Staten Island. The ban went into effect on Saturday and was lifted Sunday morning.

For a Brooklyn man, the summons was probably the least of his concerns. O’Neill says the man was speeding and ran two red lights, and had been drinking. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The travel ban barred all non-emergency motorists from the road during a massive snowstorm.
