Huntington County pursuit leads to fatal crash

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WANE) A person is dead following a fatal crash in Huntington County.

The incident started when the driver of a pickup truck was pulled over by a Huntington County sheriff deputy on U.S. 24, near Parkview Huntington, around 11 p.m. Sunday night.

The driver sped away during the stop, leading police on a four mile pursuit along U.S. 24 to Hauenstein Road to N. Ridgeline Road.

The truck stopped for a moment at Hauenstein and Ridgeline and a passenger got out of the vehicle. The driver then sped off down N. Ridgeline.

The truck went off the side of the road and struck a tree head-on. The truck and tree caught fire. Firefighters put out the blaze.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.  The identity of the driver will be released after the family is notified.

The Indiana State Police are investigating the incident at the request of the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department.
