Man hit by car after stripping naked, walking into traffic on I-465

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man stopped his car on I-465, shed his clothes as he strolled down the interstate and was hit by a car while walking naked into traffic Monday afternoon, according to Indiana State Police.

ISP troopers were called to I-465 near 38th Street around 1 p.m. on report of a naked man walking along the interstate.

Shortly before police arrived, witnesses said the man was hit by a car, ISP said.

Troopers found the naked man lying in the road conscious and breathing. The driver of the car, 76-year-old Carol Hoffman of Indianapolis, was not injured.

Investigators believe the man stopped his car on the right shoulder of southbound I-465 for an unknown reason.

He then began walking and “leaving a trail of his clothes behind him on the ground,” ISP said in a media release.

Witnesses told troopers the man “repeatedly flailed his arms and threw himself against the concrete wall along the interstate.”

ISP said the man may have been under the influence of drugs. He faces preliminary charges of public intoxication and indecent exposure.

His injuries are not life-threatening, ISP said.

His name has not been released.
