Former worship leader sentenced to 7 years

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A former West Lafayette pastor charged with attempted child exploitation and possession of child pornography was sentenced for the crimes Wednesday.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WLFI,Craig Burden was a worship leader at Calvary Baptist Church when he was arrested in July of 2015. He was sentenced to seven years for child exploitation and possession of child pornography.

Court documents say his ex-wife went to police after she found child pornography on his computer. Burden has been behind bars since last month when he violated a no-contact order with his ex-wife when he followed her to a gas station. Burden is due back in court at the beginning of February for an initial hearing on that invasion of privacy charge.

Burden was taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail and will serve four years in the Indiana Department of Corrections and three years suspended. He will serve two years in community corrections and one year on supervised probation.

Burden will also be on the sex offender registry for 10 years.
