LEBANON, Ind. (WISH) – Parents of a two-month-old were charged in the death of their son on Wednesday.
Court documents stated that on Jan. 20, Mitchell Shue and Miranda Roberts endangered the life of their son, when one of them shook the infant violently, causing multiple brain injuries.
The baby went into cardiac arrest, was revived by emergency personnel, was taken to the hospital where he went into cardiac arrest for a second time.
Hospital staff were able to revive the infant and placed him on life support. He was declared brain dead on Jan. 22 and was taken off of life support.
“This case brings tears to my eyes” said Prosecuting Attorney Todd J. Meyer, “not only because of what happened to this baby and what he suffered through, but because it was absolutely preventable. I know this happens, unfortunately, all too often, but I cannot for the life of me comprehend how someone could hurt a baby like this. He was a perfectly healthy two-month-old baby boy at his last doctor’s checkup a week or so ago and now he is gone.”
Mitchell Shue was charged with neglect of a dependent, a level 1 felony charge, maintaining a common nusiance, a level 6 felony charge, possession of marijuana, a class B felony and possession of paraphernalia, a class C felony.
Miranda Roberts was charged with the neglect of a dependent, which is a level 1 felony charge.
