State Rep. Randy Truitt to retire at end of current term

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – State Rep. Randy Truitt announced his plans to retire from his District 26 seat in the Indiana House at the end of his current term.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WLFI, Truitt’s seat, which he has held for the last eight years, includes portions of West Lafayette and Lafayette within Tippecanoe County.

He said over his time in politics, he has focused his efforts on serving families, local businesses and organizations in our community.

“I regarded serving in the Indiana General Assembly as a privilege and an honor. My goal was to make a difference, and I feel I have,” Truitt stated in a release. “I did not want a career in politics in Indianapolis, and there are many others in District 26 who may like the opportunity to serve. So, today, I am announcing my retirement as State Representative effective when my current term ends on Election Night 2016.”

Truitt based his decision not to run again on the desire to spend more time with family and focus on his growing business.

“Being home for the remaining part of my daughter’s senior year of high school is really important to me,” Truitt released. “My youngest is in eighth grade, and I am looking forward to being there for him. And of course it will be great to more freely enjoy watching my son Peyton play football at Purdue.”

Truitt said he will remain involved in community affairs and the future of the area.

Rep. Truitt serves on the Ways and Means Committee, where he is the Chairman of the Higher Education Sub-Committee, as well as serving on Local Government and Government and Regulatory Reform Committees.

Truitt also serves as a Commissioner for the State on the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission – where he had a hand in saving and funding the Hoosier State Rail Line connecting Indianapolis and Chicago with a stop in Lafayette.
