Four face felony charges; 15 pounds of heroin taken off interstate

HENRY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — Four people are in jail and almost $700,000 in drugs is off the streets.

It all started with a traffic stop on eastbound Interstate 70 in Henry County on Monday morning.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Nick Ernstes ran a check on a license plate number prior to the stop and it came back as wanted or stolen. Ernstes is a member of Pro-Active Criminal Enforcement, or PACE, a team effort from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and the Richmond Police Department.

Members from all three agencies played a role in the stop.

During a search of the vehicle, a member of the Richmond Police Department found paraphernalia related to marijuana use and evidence of cocaine.

Underneath the center console of the vehicle, investigators said six packages of heroin were found hidden. The six packages weighed 15 pounds and investigators said have a value of $680,000 on the street.

Arrested were Gary Rosas, Edgar Gonzalez, Julissa Ortega and Jasmine Ascencio. All are from California. Their charges include dealing heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
