INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – It was a special night at Lawrence North High School Friday as the only boys basketball coach the school has known was honored prior to his team’s game against Center Grove.

Jack Keefer was hired in 1976 when the school first opened, and has guided the Wildcats for 40 years.

Before the game, the school’s gym was renamed the “Jack Keefer Gymnasium.” Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett proclaimed Friday to be “Jack Keefer Day,” and Keefer was also honored with the prestigious Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Mike Pence.

Keefer ranks fourth on the all-time wins list for Indiana high school coaches. In 2007 he was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. His Lawrence North teams have won four state titles.

Many of Keefer’s former players attended the ceremony honoring their coach.

In the game Friday night, Lawrence North defeated Center Grove 67-60 improving to 12-5 on the season.
