INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police are investigating an armed robbery early Friday morning on the east side of Indianapolis.
Police said four people walked into a bar demanding money.
It happened at the Hilltop Tavern near Ridgeview and East 10th Street.
Some people living nearby said their neighborhood is pretty quiet for the most part. They haven’t had any problems, but news about a crime close to home has them thinking twice about safety.
“We kind of watch out for each other,” said Robert Bohnenkamp, resident.
Robert Bohnenkamp is hoping police will catch the bad guys soon. It was right around the corner from his house where police said this bar was targeted.
“I have a 6-year-old son so you kind of have to keep tabs on him I guess that much more knowing that they were robbed that close to home definitely a shock,” said Bohnenkamp.
Police received a call around 1:30 Friday morning.
The bartender told police four guys with guns made their way inside. One person jumped over the counter while the others went around checking the costumers.
A victim told police one of the suspects held a gun to his back and took his wallet.
“Have they caught them? I wish they would catch them or something because I don’t want them walking around this neighborhood or coming down to like family dollar or something and doing it down there too,” said resident, who didn’t want to be identified on camera.
Police have not released a description of the suspects. At this time, it’s still unclear whether the bar had any security cameras.
But it was just last October, when a restaurant a little more than two miles away made some changes to their system.
Papa Roux lowered all of its security cameras to eye level after an armed robbery. The owner also offered customers a discount for having a concealed carry permit.
He was not available for an on camera interview, but someone working at the restaurant told 24-Hour News 8 they haven’t had any problems since.
24-Hour News 8 contacted the manager at Hilltop Tavern, but we did not hear back.
