Coroner: I-65 crash led to man’s seizure, death

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – An Edinburgh man who died after a pickup truck rolled over on I-65 in Shelby County died of blunt force trauma, according to the coroners report.

24-Hour News 8’s partners at The Republic say, 29-year-old Devin Streeval died from multiple blunt force trauma injuries that were sustained during the crash. The coroner said the injuries caused subarachnoid hemorrhaging, or bleeding in the brain.

Police say the crash happened on I-65 near the 81-mile marker around 1 a.m. Jan. 28. When police arrived, the driver and passenger both appeared to be OK and denied medical assistance.

When both of them were put in an ambulance to be checked for injuries,  Streeval had a seizure. He was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital, where he died around 3:15 a.m.

The Marion County Coroner’s office said that subarachnoid hemorrhaging is an internal injury and is often not obvious, or easily detected.

The driver of the pickup, 28-year-old Alyssa Caudill, provided a blood sample to be tested for drugs and alcohol, which is standard procedure for all crashes that result in a death. Police were still waiting for the results on Wednesday morning.
