Trial opens in case of body found along Lafayette highway
LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – A trial has begun for a man accused of fatally stabbing a co-worker and dumping his body along a highway in Lafayette, with his attorneys claiming authorities are investigating the wrong man.
William Paz’s jury trial began Tuesday. He’s charged with murder and obstruction of justice in the death of 26-year-old Primitivo Flores, whose body was found Christmas Day in 2014. The two men worked at a Lafayette restaurant.
Defense attorney Art Rodriguez said there is “equal or better evidence” against another man who is accused of cleaning up the crime scene. The man also worked at the restaurant and is set to testify in Paz’s trial.
Tippecanoe County Deputy Prosecutor Kristen McVey said Flores’ blood was found on Paz’s shoes, on his apartment door and inside his vehicle.
