Indiana revenue department free filing to taxpayers

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The Indiana Department of Revenue is continuing to offer free federal and state filing to taxpayers with an adjusted gross income of $62,000 or less.

The free-file program is done in cooperation with several tax preparing companies. An agency statement on Wednesday estimates that near 2 million people in Indiana qualify to use it.

The program involves using sophisticated question-and-answer style software. The revenue department touts various advantages, including faster refunds.

Taxpayers can find out if they qualify by going to the Indiana Department of Revenue’s website.

Indiana’s program is part of the Free File Alliance. That’s a national program developed in 2003 with the help of the IRS and tax preparer firms.
