Columbus Zoo reveals name for polar bear cub

COLUMBUS (WCMH)-The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has announced that “Nora” was the winning name for the new Polar bear cub.

Nora, is a blend of her parents’ names (Nanuq and Aurora).

She was born on Nov. 6. Her twin died shortly after birth. She has been hand-reared since her mother began neglecting her.

The Zoo says she receives around-the-clock care and is fed every four hours.

The other names that were being considered for Nora:

  • Desna, an Inuit name meaning “boss”
  • Kaya, a native American name meaning “little but wise”
  • Sakari, an Inuit name meaning “sweet”
