87-year-old debuts first music video

AUGUSTA, GA (WJBF) – CSRA music legend and former WJBF-TV show host Flo Carter made history.

For more than 80 years Carter has been performing Jazz and Gospel, but on Saturday the local legend debuted her very first music video.

“It makes you cry, it makes you laugh. It’s just got everything in it,” said Carter’s oldest daughter, Cookie Dodson.

A life-long musical career came down to the very moment, when the legendary Carter unveiled the music video for her song “This Train.

“It is so exciting. I said is Elvis in the building or has he just left?” Carter said.

At only 5-years-old she started singing. Carter says the music video has been a long time coming and filming it was truly a family affair.

“When my grandson finally got ahold of it and they ran with it, and it’s just beautiful to me it’s a movie of the family and to me it’s a tribute to God. He made it possible for us,” Carter said.

Carter’s grandson, Bryan Williams, directed the video and he says during filming something even bigger than his grandmother’s very first music video happened.

“On the first day we actually started filming. We filmed in a graveyard where her husband, my grandfather, was buried and realizing it was the same day that he passed away and we had no idea. This is the same day he died 6 years later, and here we are out there, and we just knew he’s behind it. So he was going to help us do a good job with it,” said Williams, who co-owns Bryton Entertainment, Inc.

“It’s been a community affair, a God affair, and a love affair,” Carter said.

WJBF-TV asked Carter what the next step in her career is and she says for now she’s just planning on a relaxing beach trip with her family.
