City-County Council approves budget for new IMPD services

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The City-County Council unanimously passed a proposal to provide services to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers.

The proposal would give the Department of Public Safety a $50,000 budget toward giving IMPD resources for suicide prevention for officers. City-County Council passed the measure 25 to 0 in favor of the budget.

Indianapolis City-County Council President Maggie A. Lewis “Our law enforcement officers have a responsibility to protect us and ensure our safety each and every day. But who protects them? Each of us has a responsibility to guard the health and well-being of our officers and I am pleased the Council has voted to provide the resources for this much-needed service.”

The budget will make sure that IMPD has resources available and provide intervention assistance if needed.
