Dozens injured, 6 critically, after bus crash in Connecticut

MADISON, Conn. (WTNH) – Dozens of people have been injured, six critically, after a bus rollover on Interstate 95 in Connecticut on Monday.

State police in Westbrook confirmed that a bus rolled over and the State Department of Transportation reported that the northbound side of the highway was closed in that area.

Multiple ambulances across the shoreline responded to the scene, as well as area fire departments.

State police said the Dahlia tour bus had about 55 passengers on board. The Day of New London reports the bus was bound for Mohegan Sun.

The windshield was removed by emergency responders to get passengers out of the bus.

Injured people are being taken to Yale Trauma Center in New Haven.

Hospital officials said that they are expecting 30 to 40 people to be admitted, with six of them in critical condition.

Officials at the hospital said that none of the six critically injured people had arrived due to poor driving conditions to the hospital by mid-afternoon.

All passengers were taken out of the bus. Passengers that were not injured were taken to a warming center.

Spokespeople for the hospital said that they train for major trauma events like this crash five to six times per year. The hospital is prepared using techniques they have trained for in mass casualty situations.
