Police shoot, kill naked man in Texas

AUSTIN (KXAN) – An Austin police officer shot and killed a man in North Austin on Monday morning. Police say they were initially called out to the 12000 block of Natures Bend at 9:57 a.m. for someone who was acting “erratically.”

In a press conference, Austin Police Chief of Staff, Brian Manley, said the officer was able to track the suspect to the 300 block of East Yager Lane where he appeared to be naked.

“The officer approached the suspect who was behaving aggressively,” explained Manley.

After giving him several commands to comply, police say the suspect reportedly charged at the officer. It was then the officer shot at the suspect, who later died after being transported to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center.

Prior to the shooting, neighbors in the Springs of Walnut Creek neighborhood tell KXAN-TV their neighborhood Facebook page had numerous comments about someone suspicious in the neighborhood. Witnesses are currently being interviewed by police.

The name of the officer involved has not been released, but he has been with the department for 10 years. The officer has been placed on administrative leave, which is customary for these types of incidents.

Part of the incident was captured on the officer’s dash camera. Police have not said if they will be releasing the footage.
