Court documents: Sex offender used dog to volunteer with Girl Scout troop

KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — A convicted sex offender could be headed back behind bars after several new charges are filed.

Randall King of Kokomo was charged in Howard County on Feb. 3 for four counts of unlawful entry by a serious sex offender. All charges are level six felonies.

According to court documents, King entered Elwood Haynes Elementary School in Kokomo on several occasions in 2015.

King has been ordered to be on the sex offender registry for life following previous convictions including child exploitation and child molesting.

Court documents state that King claimed his dog was a service dog, but could not provide documentation confirming that, and volunteered himself and the dog as a “therapy dog” to work inside of the school. The school denied his offer.

Documents state that while King was at the school to drop off two children, he was not to enter or volunteer at the school.

The school was not aware of King’s sex offender status until Feb. 1.

Additionally, investigators found that King had volunteer with a local Girl Scout troop. The troop leader told investigators that King once asked if her daughter could come to a sleepover at his house with his children. That request was also denied.

Investigators also state that King failed to provide notification of his Facebook account on his sex offender registration form.

King is due in court on Feb. 16 for an initial hearing.
