SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A dad used some wit to explain to his daughter’s teachers why she would be late to school on Tuesday.Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the Times Union Center Monday night for a packed audience of fans both young and old.

The concert went on until nearly midnight, which kept fans up and rocking throughout the night. So a dad out of Saratoga Springs came up with a funny way to tell his daughter’s teacher why she would be late.

The father is a Springsteen superfan. He said the letter was meant to simply be funny.

“You know what?” Patrick Pipino said. “The school office staff thought it was funny, and they thought the letter was honest.”

But his wife didn’t think so.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t share that plan with my wife, and this is why there’s a very good chance I could be divorced when she gets out of school today,” Pipino said.

But Pipino said taking his 12-year-old daughter Isabelle to the concert was educational more than anything.

“When you can see an American icon, someone that’s a master at their craft perform on stage, it’s no different from going to a museum,” he said.

Isabelle said she got home around 1 a.m., and she usually goes to bed around 8:30 p.m.

When she woke up extremely tired Tuesday morning, her father started typing up the letter for both his daughters.

“Well, I just started laughing, and I went, ‘Yeah, that’s my dad,’” Isabelle said.

Not surprised by her father’s Springsteen-inspired move, Isabelle said the well-known singer is a valid excuse.

“It’s pretty cool because we don’t miss any Bruce Springsteen concerts when he’s here,” she said.

Even though her teachers thought the letter was funny, Isabelle was still marked tardy. But Isabelle said the concert was well worth staying up past her bedtime.
