Firefighters battle fire, bitter cold on east side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Fire Department responded to the east side of the city Wednesday morning to battle their second fire of the morning in bitter cold temperatures.

The fire was at a home in the 6200 block of East 26th Street, near Arlington Avenue. It started shortly after 4 a.m.

As firefighters responded to the scene, snow was falling fastly and temperatures dropped to feel well below 0.

Officials say no one was injured in the fire. The home appears to be vacant.

People should avoid the area while emergency crews remain on scene.

Firefighters were out in the cold earlier in the morning, battling a fire that destroyed an Indianapolis barbershop.
