INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Several hundred Indiana college students got the opportunity to spend the day at the Statehouse.

Ivy Tech Community College Day is a chance each year for Ivy Tech students to get an up close and personal look at the Indiana government.

Students and faculty had the opportunity to talk with elected officials.

Governor Mike Pence also took the time to speak with the students. He provided words of encouragement about how an educated population benefits everyone.

“I guarantee you that the time you are investing in your own education, and your own self-improvement is gonna ensure to the benefit of you and of your family,” Pence said.  “But the reason that I’m thanking you is because it’s also going to make Indiana and even more prosperous and dynamic place for many years to come.”

During the program on Wednesday, students also learned about the history of the Statehouse.
